If all your inner parts—the perfectionist, the worrier, the procrastinator—suddenly stopped talking, what would be left?
You. The real you.

In Internal Family Systems (IFS), that deep, steady core of who you are is called Self. It’s not a part; it’s the leader of your internal world. When your parts step back and let Self lead, you feel clear, calm, and compassionate—like the best version of yourself.
💡 Signs You’re in Self-Energy:
✔️ You feel grounded and at ease
✔️ You’re able to respond instead of react
✔️ You feel open, curious, and connected to others
✔️ You can hold space for your emotions without being overwhelmed by them
Even when life is messy, Self is always there. The problem? Our protective parts (like managers and firefighters) don’t always trust that Self can handle things, so they take over. That’s why we can get stuck in cycles of perfectionism, avoidance, or self-criticism—our parts are running the show, thinking they have to.
But here’s the good news: You don’t have to fight your parts to find Self. You just need to create space for it.
How to Tap into Self-Energy:
💛 Pause & Notice – When a part is triggered, take a breath. Instead of reacting, ask yourself, Who is speaking right now?
💛 Get Curious – Imagine turning toward that part like you would a scared child. What does it need?
💛 Invite Leadership – Gently let your parts know, I’ve got this. You don’t have to do it all.
When parts trust that Self is in charge, they don’t disappear—they relax. And when they relax, you get to show up as your most grounded, authentic self.
Your Self has always been there. It’s just waiting for the chance to lead. 💗
